Student stories: meet Edwin!
Tutorfair student Edwin tells us about his experience with Tutorfair and our amazing partner, Urban Promise.
Hi, Edwin! Can you tell us how you got involved with the tutoring?
Through Urban Promise.
What subjects have you had help with?
Biology and Computer Science.
Can you tell us about Urban Promise and what you do with them?
Urban Promise runs an After School club for children in my community and teaches them proper values and morals that they can carry throughout their lives. Here we embrace a strong sense of community and ensure that everyone feels involved in games and activities. Additionally, we provide children with meals and make sure their dietary needs are met and catered for, including allergies.
Personally I enjoy playing basketball with the children at the club, because it's an experience that has previously taught me leadership and team work, and I think this benefits the children in the long term. All in all, working with Urban Promise is a great experience and I love being around the children.
What do you like about your tutor/tutoring?
My current tutor, Ben, is very passionate about computer science, which makes it easy to follow his teachings. Tutoring gives me a sense of initiative because I'm able to get ahead of my peers.
Has tutoring helped you? If yes, how has it helped?
Tuition has carried me forward to a grade 9 in my GCSEs and this level has persisted into my A Levels, with me continually operating at an A*.
What are some of your ambitions/interests?
My primary ambition is to become an actuarial scientist. Aside from that, my interests include basketball, table tennis and I love reading scientific fiction. I like to partake in real time strategy games as I feel that they hone my critical thinking skills.
How could Tutorfair do better in sessions?
Maybe importing files during sessions? Mirroring screens can sometimes be a bit clunky.
Thanks so much Edwin!
