We’re on a mission to make tutoring fair.

Our Journey

Since 2012, Tutorfair Foundation has used innovation and sector expertise to create opportunities for young people to achieve their potential.

We began with a model of ‘One-For-One’, offering free tutoring to a student who couldn’t afford it for every paying student. As grades and learning improved, we looked for more ways to connect students  to our pool of 15,000 brilliant tutors. Our On-Demand programme gave students immediate access to informed answers on any subject from the best minds in the world.

Today, we use the same technology-driven approach to power Maths Circles for Axiom Maths, reading programmes for Chapter One, tutoring for Urban Promise and support programmes for partners like Hestia. We deliver over 400 classes each week with a 91% attendance rate.

We’re now ready to link thousands of aspiring students to the opportunities that shape real careers, whether in medicine, technology, engineering, or emerging fields yet to be defined.

By partnering with tutors, schools and industry specialists at scale, we’re committed to ensure that talent, and not circumstance, determines a young person’s future.

About our work

We deliver all of our tutoring through partnerships - most commonly with other charities, but often with schools and other organisations working directly with less-advantaged young people. Since the Foundation’s inception in 2012, we have supported more than 10,000 young people through 70+ partnerships.

Over the past few years, we have supported students at primary, secondary and Post-16 levels with bespoke online and in-person tutoring programmes, after-school clubs and educational events. We’ve collaborated with charities, schools, colleges, universities and a wide range of other partners to ensure that the right support is in place for every young person we work with.

About our volunteers

We primarily recruit tutors by advertising voluntary opportunities to our fantastic community of tutors and teachers. We also work closely with a number of London universities to involve outstanding undergraduates in our work.

All of our volunteers must meet academic requirements as well as demonstrating a keen interest in and commitment to supporting young people. Most of our volunteers already have substantial experience in education, but we also have pathways in place to include individuals who are just starting out on their tutoring journey.

All tutors go through our vetting and referencing process, attend training sessions and undergo Enhanced Criminal Record Checks before getting involved.

About our funding

We operate a mixed funding model, including income from grants, partnerships, trading and donations from the public.

In recent years, the Foundation has been lucky enough to win grants from several funding bodies, including Nesta, The National Lottery, Westminster Foundation, The Betty Messenger Charitable Foundation, Sir Walter St John’s Educational Charity, The Royal Society of Chemistry and the Harrison-Frank Family Foundation.
