Student stories: meet Anaiah!
Tutorfair student Anaiah tells us a little bit about her experience with the Foundation through Urban Promise!
Hi, Anaiah! Can you tell us how you got involved with tutoring?
Through the organisation of Urban Promise.
What subjects have you had help with?
Maths, French, Science and History.
What do you do with Urban Promise?
I help primary school children with reading, playing games, and building creativity.
What do you like about your tutor/tutoring?
I like that during the tutoring, sessions are catered to what I want to do and there is good communication between myself and my tutors. They work to your best interests all the time, it’s not just during the sessions, but they give me work outside of the sessions to help me too.
I have gotten on well with all of my tutors, but Kath and Wafa have been my favourites so far. Wafa built my confidence with French and I was able to get a 5 in my Foundation GCSE paper - it was the highest score in the year for Foundation. Kath gives really good feedback when I write essays for her.
I’ve never asked a question that my tutors weren’t able to answer, they are prepared for everything.
What are some of your ambitions/interests?
I hope to study for a law degree when I complete my A Levels. Outside of education, I am really interested in culture and history. I like philosophical topics and debates too.
How could we do better?
The only problems we ever have is with software - perhaps more training for tutors to use the software could be helpful. At some point with every tutor we have had a problem with this. If there was a way the tutors were better able to upload videos and mirror their screens, this would really benefit someone like me who is a visual learner. With everything being online, this is the only problem we ever come across.
Is there anything else you want to say about your experience?
Overall it has been a really positive experience for me.
Thank you, Anaiah!
