Rising to the challenge: navigating the sale of Tutorfair

In June of 2022, we learned that Tutorfair had been sold and was to close.

This was enormous news for us and, initially, represented a genuine existential threat to our organisation. We were founded by Tutorfair over 10 years ago, and have enjoyed a close working relationship ever since. Not only did Tutorfair provide a substantial amount our core funding through its client donations scheme, it was also our main avenue of volunteer recruitment and supplied many of our day-to-day needs such as our devices, database and communication tools, office space and accountancy.

Throughout the summer, time was taken to interview our partners and beneficiaries and the trustees were convened regularly to examine the values, vision, and mission of the charity. An exciting plan for our future emerged as we began to see the sale of Tutorfair as an opportunity instead of a threat.

Our commitment for the future

As a fully independent charity, we will deliver more and better support to the young people we serve. We will do this by extending the scope of the support we offer whilst focusing on the partnerships in our network that value longer-term transformational change over shorter-term transactional benefits. This will mean introducing mentoring, networking and career-related services for our beneficiaries and developing multi-year delivery programmes.

We are proud to have emerged from the sale of Tutorfair with a new, energised and ambitious vision of our future. We hope you’ll join us as we work towards better outcomes and opportunities for underserved and underrepresented young people.
