Primary Literacy in Middlesbrough

About the project

The Tutorfair Foundation is partnering With TutorMate to support the literacy of primary-age students who have limited opportunities to read or be read to.

41% of children in Middlesbrough live in poverty and 1 in 10 don’t own a single book. The impact of COVID-19 school closures means that disadvantaged young readers have fallen on average 7 months behind their peers. You can help them to catch up.

Volunteers will be paired with one or more young people (6 or 7 years old) and deliver a 30 minute reading session with them each week over the course of the academic year (October 2021 - July 2022). Sessions will take place at times that are convenient for you and will be delivered online via the bespoke TutorMate platform.
