‘Spotlight on’ our charity partners: Chapter One
At Tutorfair Foundation, we work with many wonderful charities in our efforts to get tuition to students who will benefit from it the most. In this series, we’d like to highlight the important work our charity partners are doing with young people—and the ways in which you could get involved!

Tutorfair Foundation is delighted to be collaborating with Chapter One for a fourth consecutive year. Chapter One is a multi-national charity working to improve the lives of children in The USA, Canada and England by developing their reading and literacy skills, boosting their confidence and providing 1:1 specialist tutoring.
Chapter One was founded in 1993 in The USA, when Chicago pre-school owner Seth Weinberger noticed the difficulty his teachers were having helping to teach struggling students to read. To help solve this, Chapter One launched an online volunteering platform offering 1:1 reading sessions with students to help improve their confidence and build a love of reading. This is now the world’s largest virtual reading programme, supporting thousands of children each week.

Tutorfair Foundation is incredibly proud to support Chapter One by connecting tutors from our amazing community to their volunteering programme. Our volunteers work directly with KS1 students from Middlesbrough, offering personalised reading sessions built on stories and games provided by the bespoke platform. Students in this area of the country tend to have limited access to books at home, and many will never be read to by a parent or guardian. Dedicated reading time with our committed volunteers helps to address this need and the students make rapid progress as a result.
Another reason we love this collaboration so much is that it offers everyone in our community (not just the most experienced tutors!) an opportunity to volunteer in the world of education, social mobility and inclusion. The sessions are hosted entirely remotely, lasting 30 minutes, so everyone can find the time to get involved despite their busy schedules.
If you’d like to volunteer with Tutorfair Foundation, we’d love to hear from you! Please do get in touch or sign up here.
