“The best tutor I’ve ever had”: How our volunteers are helping students thrive

Autumn term can be a stressful time - especially for Year 13 students, who may be balancing writing their university applications with their final year of learning before A-levels. Our volunteers have gone above and beyond this term to provide support to our sixth form learners — here’s what the students have had to say about the support they’ve provided…

I have improved a lot more because of the tutoring. The way the lessons are explained, I really understand it. [My tutor] goes through the topics and questions that I don’t understand which is really great - the best tutor I’ve ever had!
— Student receiving Maths tuition
I’m really happy with [my tutor], I get a lot out of the lessons every week
— Student receiving Chemistry tuition
[My tutor] is supportive for gaps not covered in school - it’s enriching to have her!
— Student receiving Business tuition
In the beginning of [Year 12], Chemistry was my worst subject but after my tutoring sessions I feel like I’m more confident and now I feel more satisfied with where I am - I understand the subject more and find it easier than I did.
— Student receiving Chemistry tuition
The lessons are very productive, and the tutor is really helping - I tell him what I’m studying and he prepares good resources for the next lesson
— Student receiving Biology tuition
[My tutor] has been so helpful in the run up to UCAS: giving resources, looking over my personal statement, and having lots of discussions about economics and current affairs
— Student receiving Economic tuition

We’re so grateful for the way our volunteers support our students with their in-school studies as well as their university applications - making a stressful time that little bit easier!
